Special Efforts to Recruit Youth from Mountainous Regions in the Indian Coast Guard

The Indian Coast Guard is set to make special efforts to recruit young individuals from mountainous regions. To facilitate this, recruitment centers will be established in Dehradun and Guwahati. According to sources in the Ministry of Defense, the establishment of these centers has received the required approval, and the goal is to start operations in the new year after completing necessary formalities.

Until now, the recruitment centers for the Coast Guard have been located in major cities such as Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai. This will be the first time that permanent centers are being set up in mountainous regions. Once these centers become operational, the experiences gained from them will be considered for opening similar recruitment centers in other parts of the country. The government has also stated that a community outreach campaign has been initiated to inspire youth to join the Coast Guard.

It is worth mentioning that the Indian Coast Guard is a semi-military force under the Ministry of Defense. Regular recruitment of personnel takes place in this organization. It is estimated that there are around 2,000 vacant positions for personnel in the Coast Guard. According to information provided to the Parliament, at present, there are 10,748 personnel deployed compared to the sanctioned strength of 12,645 personnel. Additionally, there are also vacancies for officers’ positions.
