Abhinav Kumar will be the new Chief of Uttarakhand Police, always making headlines with his statements

Abhinav Kumar will be the new Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in Uttarakhand. His term has been extended to 25 years after the UPSC relaxed the service period requirements for the DIG post. He has previously served as the police captain in Haridwar and Dehradun.

Abhinav Kumar also served as IG Garhwal for a few months and was appointed to the CRPF on central deputation. He played a significant role when Article 370 was repealed in Jammu and Kashmir. Abhinav Kumar often remains in the media spotlight due to his statements. His statement regarding the police in the “Satyamev Jayate” program nine years ago still draws attention.

He also wrote a letter to actor Shahrukh Khan’s son, Aryan Khan, seeking an apology from the police’s side. Currently, he holds the position of special secretary to the Chief Minister. Abhinav Kumar arrived in Uttarakhand after its formation, where he took charge of various district captaincies. He became DIG in 2009 and IG in 2014.

Abhinav Kumar, an IPS officer, was previously posted in ITBP in Jammu and Kashmir. He played a crucial role when Article 370 was repealed in the Valley. The UPSC relaxed the service period requirements for the DIG post to 25 years, which allowed Abhinav Kumar to enter this domain. Recently, his name was also included in the panel alongside ADG Deepam Seth and PVK Prasad.
